I have been on Twitter for a little while now and I have been religiously using Tweetdeck for the majority of my Tweets. It’s time, however, to answer the question that has been on my mind, and probably on yours as well…. What is the best client for Twitter?
Your vote will provide the answer to this question for everyone and ultimately decide which client I end up using. Please pass this along throughout the Twitterverse and use the power of the community to answer this question. Note: If you don’t see the client you want to vote for, leave a comment and I’ll add it to the poll.
Drumroll please…. The Winner is…
Tweetie is the clear winner for the 2009 #topclient with 36% of the vote. Congratulations Tweetie!
The Twitterverse-wide vote resulted in more than 700 votes being placed to choose the Best Desktop/Web client for Twitter. Tweetie’s strong, passionate, following carried the day. Congratulations to Tweetie, the Twitterverse choice. Here are the top 5 clients according to the vote:
- Tweetie with 36% of the vote.
- PeopleBrowsr with 16% of the vote.
- TweetDeck with 13% of the vote.
- Bluebird with 8% of the vote.
- Twangle with 4% of the vote.
Feel free to check out the press release and share with your friends, you helped choose the winner.
Stay tuned for the 2009 #topmobileclient voting which will begin May 25th and run through until 8 PM ET on June 12th.

Thanks so much, John, for doing this.
It was exciting, interesting and very helpful. We love feedback from users, it’s gold for us.
We are humbled by the support of the community, giving PeopleBrowsr 16% of the votes, while still in Open Alpha.
Thanks you so much, Everyone.
Please, keep up the awesome feedback!

I agree Mark. Once #topclient completes I will be starting #topMobileclient which will focus on that very question. What clients would you, and others, recommend I include?

Any chance you could add my personal favorite, Buzzbird?

(Full disclosure – I’m the author of said client!)
May 8, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Twangle was removed. While I hadn’t planned on winning, I think removing Twangle from the poll is a little bit of juking the stats and pointless.
May 8, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Completely my fault… The current leader, Tweetie, has just over 200 votes with voting really just beginning to heat up with just over a week left. Everyone is still in it but I do apologize for accidentally leaving Twangle off the list.

My favorite desktop/Web client Tweetree is missing from the list:
http://tweetree.com/
Also, I wonder what desktop/Web clients people prefer in countries with non-Latin-based writing systems. Some of the most widely used clients like Tweetdeck aren’t truly UTF-8 and are incapable of displaying, say, Japanese or Hebrew characters (to name two countries where Twitter’s the rage).
May 6, 2009 at 2:50 pm
There is another intriguing SM app that has potential. Nomee.com. I like how you can send all your profiles via “cards”. But, for now it lacks in displaying the status updates of twitter and facebook accounts. http://snipurl.com/h7tw5

Not sure what I’m desperate about but my desire is to ensure that a fair vote occurs. Restarting MAY, I emphasize MAY, have been too large a step but the voters will ensure we get it right.

Hi all:
The best tool for twitter is Twitter Karma. You can see which people follow you only and which users you are following but are not getting the respect in return. It takes awhile to load. Be patient. It is free.
Thanks and good luck to all Twitter folks,
Craig

Once Seesmic adds spell check and can identify the symbols in the photo box. I would use it more. I still use good old Tweeter to search for new followers and to see who’s folling me.

Tweetie, no doubt about it!
May 3, 2009 at 6:43 pm
A distinction really should be made for the platform as most people, I’d assume, use Twitter in different ways.
Personally I’m devoted to Tweetie on my iPhone, but use Tweetdeck on my desktop. I use them both about equally and not very impressed w/ Tweetie for the desktop. This poll doesn’t make a distinction.

twitterfon is best on the iPhone/iPod touch, though tweetie is a close second – if it had a cache it would be a difficult call.
May 3, 2009 at 6:38 pm
blogo & twitterific are the best. (blogo has the edge slightly).

I have used the Tweetdeck, as well, however I have been on the hunt for my favorite client. I have tried many, but I keep coming back to the same one- I LOVE PeopleBrowsr!!!
It is loaded with useful features: instantly able to see if you are following someone & if they are following back, unlimited groups, search, sort, add #hashtags, various views, & so much more I have yet to discover!

I like Twirl on PC desktop. Hands down best is Tweetie on iPhone. If I had a Mac I’d give TweetieMac the first try.
May 3, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Seesmic Desktop Preview, which was just updated ( .2-rc2), has replaced TweetDeck and Nambu as my fav desktop app.
Still loving Tweetie on iPhone (and eagerly lusting for new update).

May 3, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Bluebird should be on the list.
May 3, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Let me suggest three nice native (ie, non AIR-powered) Mac OS X clients: Pwitter, NatsuLion and Syrinx.
May 3, 2009 at 5:56 pm
There is no “best” client because it’s all a matter of personal opinion and how you intend to use it (for instance, TweetDeck is great for power users, but my girlfriend loves TwitterFox as a casual user and would hate TweetDeck).
I use and love Tweetie because it’s simple, has a beautiful UI, and has some really neat features (like picture preview) that I would sorely miss if I switched.
May 3, 2009 at 5:56 pm
An excellent Twitter app for Mac users that also incorporates Facebook and Flickr is EventBox: http://thecosmicmachine.com/
May 3, 2009 at 5:52 pm
I absolutely LOVE Tweetie on my iPhone! …and I’m a little perturbed at why Tweetdeck
is so popular – I find it very annoying for many reasons. Having said that – I’m still weighing the competition. I think a decent build could knock Tweetdeck out very easily!
May 3, 2009 at 5:52 pm
I like Pwitter on OS X
May 3, 2009 at 3:41 pm
I used to swear by Tweetdeck but found it had lots of little irritations. I moved to Twhirl but now that Seesmic Desktop has groups I’m loving it:)
May 3, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I currently use Seesmic Desktop on my PC and Tweetie on my Iphone. I do like Tweetdeck as well though and can’t decide which I prefer for my PC.
May 3, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Wow, I just saw the video on SimpleTweet and I might have to change my mind on the iPhone (Tweetie)…looks quite impressive. I’m going to go download it and check it out (assuming it’s not like $20 or something crazy).

different vote if we were talking about phones??
May 3, 2009 at 2:29 pm
I have used TweetDeck longer than Seesmic but personally, I still use good ol’ Twitter on the Web.
TweetDeck: Good GUI, easy to RT, language translation, user groups, short URL, 12seconds.tv, TwitPic, TweetShrink and Facebook integration (I don’t use it)
Seesmic: Multiple accounts (I don’t use it); user lists; short URL; and picture, video and Faceboook integration
Verdict: Still Twitter on the Web and occasionally TweetDeck
How about you?

Hi John, I just voted. I used to be a faithful fan of twhirl, then became a tweedeck tweep. But one one of your readers, Steve, just mentioned one that I am trying right now that looks pretty nifty. Maybe if I was asked that question in two weeks, my answer will be different.
May 1, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Thanks Benin. Part of the reason for this poll, beyond just identifying the best twitter client, is to give everyone a chance to learn about others. Let us all know what you think in a couple of weeks.
John

I’ve been through the web, Tweetie, Tweetdeck and Seesmic routes and ended up with “Twittelator” on my iPhone as my preferred client. Not on the list though…

Check out PeopleBrowsr. I’m fiddling with it. It’s like TweetDeck on steriods. One plus or minus (depending on how you look at it) is that it works in a browser window and is not a separate application.
Good luck on your poll!
April 29, 2009 at 2:50 am
User can re-arrange each group by Tweetdeck , however, twitter web clienti is the orgional UI applicaion, and did experience so heavy traffic recently. I would prefer Tweetdeck UI application.
