Start the wave, #workwednesday

A few years ago I was in Orlando at one of those outdoor Disney shows.  As we sat in the audience my brother in-law came up with the idea to start the wave.  One person in the midst of more than a thousand just trying to see what he could do.  It started slowly with all of us joining in…  After a few seconds people around us, laughing, decided to give it a go.  Within a few minutes the entire audience was going back and forth, doing the wave.  One person can make things happen.

Here is my proposal to all of you.  If you have a blog, a twitter account, a Facebook page, a pulse, let’s take some of our social clout and make a difference each and every Wednesday.  While I have several personal charities I support the most important one is a goal to help reduce unemployment, one person at a time. Please, on Wednesday’s going forward:

  • Login to your social networks.  Conduct business as usual.
  • Take a moment away from your personal goals and share one job opportunity.  It could be one in your company, one you have just heard about.  Share it across your networks.

Simple, right?  It’s time all of us do a little more.  Enough said.

John

Hi There! I’m Pipper12 that Harvest of a Daily Life retweeted this post for…

I have started a facebook/blog trying to get 700 people a job who will soon be laid off from a local plant closing in my town.

I think this is great what you are doing!!! Thank you!!

And if anyone wants, please post any job leads on my facebook page from anywhere as some of these folks will have to relocate because our town cannot absorb 700 people as we already have a 10% unemployment rate.

On the converse note, I am looking for work. Currently I am described as a Digital Project Manager – I manage web site builds mainly in a digital agency environment. As a PM I am structured, organised, a good communicator, customer focussed, technically skilled and if I may blow my own trumpet, very good and effective. Never the less still seeking work.

I would enjoy getting back to a PM role, but as there are likely to be people from all industries and with many ideas I’d also like to consider a career change. Something different for a change (I’ve been a PM for 11 years now). Any ideas?

Hey Rob, copy/paste in your resume, if that is okay, we’ll start spreading the word.

I can imagine how this “wave” could become interesting if properly managed & disseminated via a centralized web system. Might be an interesting tweeter-like application.

Now that is something any person can find the time for. Will do!

Like the idea. I’ve long thought there should be a day to recommend people looking for work as well. #TalentTuesday?
