Does social media make sense for your organization
May 7, 2010 — John Moore
Check out the latest version of the Socialnomics video and tell me, does your organization, whether it is a business, agency, or local government, need to consider leveraging social media?
I also agree that Social Media needs to be in every businesses communication and marketing strategy, however it also needs to be integrated with the overall marketing strategy to have the full impact and benefits it can provide an organization.
The biggest cultural change this provides is the instant two-way and unfiltered communications along with the detailed analytics that has not been previously available with traditional marketing tools such as print, radio or TV. However the biggest game changer is the viral aspect of what can occur when a message or video is “discovered” and is immediately seen by hundreds if thousands of individuals.

John, thank you for sharing this video on our Facebook page.
Social media is definitely an important initiative for us. We have seen so many company benefits from the moment we began our social media strategy. We learned that social media is not only about brand recognition, but also about listening to our audience. One of our main purposes is to share valuable knowledge with our customers/fans/followers; brand awareness comes as a bonus. We also learned that time is very important; companies that are ready to leverage social media will need to invest time if they want to reap any reward. One last thing, social media is an endless learning process. We keep learning every day!
Thanks again for sharing this and please keep doing so. We’re sure our friends will appreciate it.
There is so much wrong with this video — and I’ve observed the iterations of it and others.
For starters, while 96% of millennials may have joined social networking sites, how many are active today? Or, are they part of the 70%-plus of users who quit on Twitter in the first month, primarily because folks like Britney and Ashton pimp their accounts, gain groupies, but the groupies don’t know what to do?
Yeah, social media is important — for quality, not quantity. Where are the notorious Zappos and Comcast case studies reflected in this video? They’re not. Once you answer why, you answer why this video is all about viral emotions and little about facts why social media is such a powerful mode.
John, yup .. we all need to leverage social media. I’m finding my own approach is to “live as much as possible in the social world” which is comfortable for me. BTW, we should all take a lesson from you and express ourselves through video. Aaron
